Weeds in your rock garden driving you crazy?

Believe it or not, it’s really easy to eliminate pesky weeds, grass and other growing plants in your rock areas – places you definitely don’t want them.

Don’t bother with things like weed mats that are supposed to keep the weeds out. A really simple fix is to lay a 2 to 3 inch layer of ‘concrete crush’ below your preferred rock topping. The lime in the concrete will kill just about any type of growing plant and your rock area will look great for years to come!

If the idea of dousing your yard or rock areas with chemicals makes you cringe, don’t fret over it. Give us a call at 403-818-5857 and we’ll answer all your questions about options for weed control besides nasty chemicals.

Late Fall Lawn Fertilization

Calgary-Landscape-Supplies-Fall-MaintenanceAt this point in the season, for most of us, landscaping is the last thing on our minds since the spring months seem like an eternity away. That said, even though the days are getting shorter and the temperatures are getting colder it’s still not too late to fertilize your lawn before the snow flies!

Having your lawn fertilized late in the fall can actually help encourage a healthy spring lawn. Our lawns are in constant need of care even when they are dormant. Fertilizing in late fall will provide nutrients to the grass over the wintertime. These nutrients activate immediately in the spring helping the lawn grow quickly out of dormancy.

Not only that, wintertime also brings some lawn diseases such as snow mold, fairy ring and necrotic ring spot. Fertilizing in the fall will usually prevent these from invading your lawn.

Here are some fall fertilization tips to promote a healthy landscape during winter.

Fall Landscaping

Man the weather has been crazy but that’s no reason to not get those last couple of landscaping things finished up for the year.

Cooler temperatures puts less stress on your plants, shrubs and trees and it gives them a better chance of taking root. It is also a great time to buy new plants and greenery as most nurseries have reduced their pricing.

Next week the weather is warming up so this would be a perfect time to finish what you started before we had our cold snap and if you’re all done with the landscaping for the year, it would be a perfect time to start making plans for next year’s projects.
