Late Fall Lawn Fertilization

Calgary-Landscape-Supplies-Fall-MaintenanceAt this point in the season, for most of us, landscaping is the last thing on our minds since the spring months seem like an eternity away. That said, even though the days are getting shorter and the temperatures are getting colder it’s still not too late to fertilize your lawn before the snow flies!

Having your lawn fertilized late in the fall can actually help encourage a healthy spring lawn. Our lawns are in constant need of care even when they are dormant. Fertilizing in late fall will provide nutrients to the grass over the wintertime. These nutrients activate immediately in the spring helping the lawn grow quickly out of dormancy.

Not only that, wintertime also brings some lawn diseases such as snow mold, fairy ring and necrotic ring spot. Fertilizing in the fall will usually prevent these from invading your lawn.

Here are some fall fertilization tips to promote a healthy landscape during winter.

Landscape Preparation Most Important

One of the most important part of any landscaping project is preparation.

Making sure that all your equipment and products like gravel, topsoil, sod as well as making sure that outside contractors like concrete providers are on scheduled can determine how well the project goes together and if it is completed on time.

This prep for a garage pad makes it easy for the next step. Pouring the pad.

Are You Using Sandstone For Landscaping?

Sandstone is composed of quartz or feldspar. Because they are the most resistant minerals to weathering processes it is commonly used for outdoor building projects like walls, walkways as well as large buildings like the Old City Hall, the old Grain Exchange building and many of the downtown schools found in Calgary’s city centre. This is the initial stage of some large garden beds that will be surrounded for years with a beautiful sandstone border.
