Stone has been a constant source for building for millennia. When it comes to building a set of stone steps there are a number of things to think about before you start.

Preparation and calculating distances for the rise and run will help you choose the stone you are going to use for each step. Determining the number of steps is critical beforehand.

Find the run distance of the stairs and divide that by the number of steps less one step for the top step and this will tell you if you have enough steps to accomplish your build.

Preparing the base, installing drainage, if needed and compacting the area are just a few more of the steps to getting it right when building stone steps or walkways.
